How to fix external mic input not being picked up on a computer

Ok, just a quick video on on how to enable an external microphone on your laptop. I assumed it would be a cut and dry process similar to how a 3.5 mm earphones or speaker being plugged into a computer just works. Apparently not; and seems to be a particularly common occurrence.

All this ensued when I was trying to check the sound quality of sE Electronics Laser shotgun microphone that I finally managed to open after many moons. So without much ado:

JavaScript: Unscripted - a resdesign

Just a quick update on the new blog which I posted about recently -

A simple child theme that I hack and slashed to make it a bit more personal. It's live but still requires a lot more tweaking and changes I've envisioned. But for now here is the new redesign for JavaScript: 'Unscripted'

Captain America Civil War

Marvel has done it yet again. Usually a movie franchise hits rough patches at the sequel stage and where DC comics to movie conversions have all but been unimpressive and spectacularly incohesive as the latest Superman Vs Batman demonstrates, marvel seems to have found the almost perfect formula for big screen action and story telling.

Following the trend set by Captain: The Winter Soldier, this installation sees a  similarly sombre tone, with subterfuge and misdirection fueled narrative, although this time around the level of accountability seems somewhat less tenable due the strife tied to the Marvel nation of Wakanda as opposed to real world spaces which formed the backdrop to previous movies. Ok fine, there was Sokovia, but it sounded too much like a real place.

There are a few instances in the movie where the usual timed to perfection jokes seemed to have missed the mark and it's only glaringly obvious since the previous movies' draw has been its exquisitely balanced humour sprinkled at the right spots to provide the perfect amount of comedic relief. This this time around, with so much at stake, coupled with the more actuated consequences the Capn and his team have to put up with mainly because they are not invincible super green gamma monsters or a veritable god, seem to wear heavily on the team.

Even so, the ever so slight overbearances do not detract from the overall great package it is and adds yet another delectable notch in the Marvel cinematic repertoire. A must watch this summer; DC take note.

Nifty little keyboard shorcuts for Firefox

So through my sojourn on my interwebs, and even before I had access, I'd chance across handy little keyboard shortcuts which not only lessen the amount of mouse dragging and clicking but open up completely new actions which elevate usage to new heights.

Some of these are from collections found online and some of them I discovered; note, a good portion of them are things found online.

My favorite Firefox tricks include (might work for other browsers):
Ctrl + E OR F6 - Jump to the browser search bar
Ctrl + T - New tab
Ctrl + W - Close current tab
Ctrl + Shift + T - Open previously closed tab(s)
Ctrl + Shift + E - Global open tab view (a thumbnailesque view of all open tabs)
Ctrl + Tab - Cycle forward through open tabs
Ctrl + Shift + Tab - Cycle backward through open tabs

Commencing countdown, engines on

It's been over a year since this blog has received ANY update. Besides a few little pieces I have nothing overly major to post here at the moment, that will soon change in the next few months or so. In the mean time I've started a new blog JavaScript: 'Unscripted', focused purely on the path that takes me on my quest to learn JavaScript.

It's part of a course I signed up on www.simpleprogrammer.com and which allowed me to go ahead and get a domain name or two registered. At the moment it's very sparse and using default themes but expect that to change iteratively soon enough.

With that I bid you adieu.
