Captain America Civil War

Marvel has done it yet again. Usually a movie franchise hits rough patches at the sequel stage and where DC comics to movie conversions have all but been unimpressive and spectacularly incohesive as the latest Superman Vs Batman demonstrates, marvel seems to have found the almost perfect formula for big screen action and story telling.

Following the trend set by Captain: The Winter Soldier, this installation sees a  similarly sombre tone, with subterfuge and misdirection fueled narrative, although this time around the level of accountability seems somewhat less tenable due the strife tied to the Marvel nation of Wakanda as opposed to real world spaces which formed the backdrop to previous movies. Ok fine, there was Sokovia, but it sounded too much like a real place.

There are a few instances in the movie where the usual timed to perfection jokes seemed to have missed the mark and it's only glaringly obvious since the previous movies' draw has been its exquisitely balanced humour sprinkled at the right spots to provide the perfect amount of comedic relief. This this time around, with so much at stake, coupled with the more actuated consequences the Capn and his team have to put up with mainly because they are not invincible super green gamma monsters or a veritable god, seem to wear heavily on the team.

Even so, the ever so slight overbearances do not detract from the overall great package it is and adds yet another delectable notch in the Marvel cinematic repertoire. A must watch this summer; DC take note.
